Hi all, welcome back! Please read this entire post as there has been a few changes and some weird things in this tournament. First, let me break down the format for this tournament. Remember, this is a Twenty20 tournament. So, they will be playing 20 overs a side. Its a short game. Players who excel in Twenty20 are not always the same as those that do better in the longer versions. The tournament has been broken into 2 different sections. There are the qualifying rounds, and then the main tournament.
Qualifying: Starts March 8th
Group A: Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands, Oman
Group B: Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Scotland, Zimbabwe
Main Tourney: Starts March 15th
Group 1: England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Group B winner
Group 2: Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Group A winner
So, you'll see that the main teams do not play in the initial rounds. Cricketweb has broken the fantasy game into 2 tournaments. So, I have created a separate User Competition for each. You will need to create 2 teams and join BOTH competitions. You can give your teams the same name and since the two parts of the tournament aren't concurrent you will only be managing one at a time. I am assuming that Anna will agree to help out with a worm, and maybe she can carry the qualifying worm over so that we can see how we all do with both parts combined.
Other changes: When you create your team you will notice that you only have 3 batsmen, 1 wicket keeper, and 3 bowlers. The last 4 slots are designated as "mixed". Once you fill your 7 required spots, the last 4 players can be from any of the player types. So you can add 4 extra batsmen if you think they will be racking up major runs. Or, if you like both wicket keepers, you won't have to choose. Use them both. I think it will make it a little more interesting and opens up way more team options in the later games when we all tend to have the same players.
So, go now to cricket web. Log on, and make 2 teams. Add one to the World Cup T20 2016 Qualifying and one to World Cup T20 2016. Cricket web will be emailing you an invite into our competition but you can also use the following keys: For Qualifying use 1456787952 and for the main tourney use 1456788101.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Clarifying Question: Will we have two separate winners or will the winner be decided by a combined score?
ReplyDeleteI think a hearty pat on the back to the one in the lead at the end of qualifying should suffice. So, one winner decided by combined score. Good question James, good question.
ReplyDeleteWinner decided by combined score, or just the score in the second tournement?
ReplyDeleteSecond Question: Last tournament the GMT made the calendar off so that afternoon games in GMT actually played the next day. Will there be similar problems? I seam to remember a link on cricket web to help with that but can't locate it. Thoughts? It seams like there are so many trades you could trade your whole team and the captain every time and never run out. Did I get something wrong?
ReplyDeleteTime zones in India are weird. Use the GMT times listed (not local) and we are 8 hours earlier. So the early games will be at like 1:30 am. You'll have to make trades the day before. I don't think there will be a date issue though like there was in Australia
ReplyDeleteAnna, I think combined score but Michael thinks it will be weird not having the cricket web match our competition. Thoughts??
ReplyDeleteI think it should be combined, and you'll have to rely on the worm for the standings. Anyone else have a thought?
ReplyDeleteIt all sounds reasonably clear thanks to your explanation, Katy. I am hoping we won't have complex time issues here in the UK. Hoping to watch a lot of the matches. Hope you all get to see some. I'm veering towards pat on back for qualifying and then wiping slate clear for main competition. But happy to go with whatever is decided.

ReplyDeleteJames, nice name. Seems we have a Fungus among us. Hope your not to humongous. You're such a Fun-guy! I can work with it, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI have joined the qualifying competition. I can't see all the teams in our competition - where do I look to see if my team has been added?
ReplyDeleteCatherine, I got an email saying you had joined but I'm not seeing you listed as a team on the site. I think you should try joining again.
ReplyDeleteI see you Conquistadors!!
ReplyDeleteGreat! I did exactly what I did yesterday - who knows! Nice name, huh!
ReplyDeleteThe Real Deal has joined and The Morse Twist Drill is already leaving an impression.
ReplyDeleteI don't know much but I know Yaneznayou will be joining us along with the constant Chartham Strikers
ReplyDeleteSo, I had a problem finding out when the qualifying rounds are over and the real game begins. Could have nasty consequences in terms of wasted trades. I guess that's the kind of panic one gets into when one joins at the last minute. As for pats on the back or combined score, I have no preference as long as I win.
