Sorry about the lack of a blog this last day, I have been up to my eyeballs in fruit. Picking, jamming, pieing, and eating. All that fruit also leads to some other time consuming issues. Anyway, with all this fruit around I barely had time to hit a 4 year olds birthday and plan a vegan lunch. So what has been going on? Well, a whole lot of rain. Both of the last games have been effected by the rain and ol duckworth lewis had to rear his ugly head. Don't know what/who duckworth lewis is? Neither do I but it has something to do with rain and how you shorten and decide on a winner in the game of cricket. So, today India beat Pakistan by 8 wickets with 17 balls remaining in a pretty boring game. Not much of note there. Pakistan was out of it anyway. India moves on. and the day before well it was a nail bitter. I was just rereading the commentary so I could set you all up for the drama but honestly I am just confused. Seems the target to win changes every over when you are under the spell of ol duckworth. But It all came down to one wicket and the Pollard was the poor sucker who dropped it. So, South Africa and the West Indies tied. But South Africa has a better net run rate than the West Indies so they will be moving on.
Tomorrow England and New Zealand play. A win for either one will ensure they move on, a loss and you have to look at what happens with Australia and net run rates and all kinds of weird things. So lets hope they play and someone wins.
Our tourney is all about jockey for position these days. Seems like at this point you are either on the top, in the middle, or on the bottom with not much change. However, do not give up hope, the end is near and this is when your trade management may come into play. So, battle on folks, battle on.

Ok, Katy, NOW I'm interested. A vegan lunch. You guys aren't vegans are you - or even vegetarian? Well, as long as the fruit is keeping you going, if you'll pardon the expression. The health gurus say you should have five pieces a day... Meantime, I shall just puddle on in the rain.
ReplyDeleteOh, I meant to say Duckworth and Lewis were two different dudes who worked out the mathematical formula for recalculating matches affected by weather. It appears they did play cricket, though how many cricketers are able to add and subtract much less work out algorithms is a moot point. Duckworth Lewis sank the South African team in whatever world cup thingy it was in 2003 (I think), when our guys didn't run the one extra run they needed to win with DL. Everyone blamed Shaun Pollock. I have a suspicion it was Mark Boucher who made the mistake. He was the batsman of the moment.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that DL favours the second team to bat but I may be wrong. I am really hoping that the game goes ahead without interruption today. Holding thumbs (sorry fingers crossed) that England win. Weather report seems to say it will be dry in Cardiff (for the most part). Anyway, I love the fruit stories - sounds like you are having a good Californian summer. I remember picking cherries on the farm with you - what a good time we had! Hopefully England will pick lots of cherries today!
ReplyDeleteNot vegans here Moira but Michael has a vegan coworker coming to lunch and I thought it would be bad form to serve him sheperds pie.
ReplyDeleteCatherine - I actually like the expression holding thumbs. I'm hoping to work it in sometime.
ReplyDeleteExcellent, Anna. You may need to add an explanation with it. We have just returned from London to find England in a reasonable position and rained having reduced the overs. So going to watch the rest of the match. What was Guptill thinking though.....
ReplyDeleteWatching with my eyes shut!!! The tension is too much for me... Silly Duckworth Lewis!
ReplyDeleteYES!!!! Willianson out. Much dancing around the room...
ReplyDeleteMore Dancing - Yay, Anderson (the English one of course)!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh..... Need to lie down in a darkened room now..... I do love cricket!
ReplyDeleteCath, you really need to get a life! But I'm glad for you that England won. Leaves me with a conundrum for my trades though, cos, apparently, New Zealand could still leapfrog the poms. Oy. And, yes, Katy, such bad form to give a vegan a piece of a dead cow or sheep. See, I can't even remember what goes into shepherd's pie. I'd battle to be a vegan though. The odd piece of non-animal-rennin cheese is a fine thing. Into the final straits, everyone...
