And so it begins................... again.

Welcome back folks, glad you all could join me for some cricket fun. The tournament gets underway on Thursday June 6th with a match between India and South Africa. This tournament is a bit shorter than our world cup tourneys. There are two groups of 4 teams. Each team will play one ODI against each other team in their group - so 3 matches total. 2 points for a win, 1 for tie or no result and 0 for a loss. Top two teams in the group advance to a semifinal match. Winners of those move on to the final on June 23rd. For those rookies out there an ODI is a One Day International game. It means that each match will be comprised of 50 overs per side. Slightly longer than the Twenty20 matches but not as long as a test match. If you are still confused check out the cricket 101 link on the right.

I hear rumors of a new face in our midst. Please welcome Jolie. Jolie was a college roommate of mine and still a very dear friend. The tournament gets under way on her birthday – but that should not be any reason to go easy on her – she’s one tough cookie.

So………get your teams together and lets have some fun!

  1. Welcome Jolie! Be ready for some tough competition - no mercy is given here! I tried to get tickets for a match but it is all sold out (OK it was a little late to try). We will be watching on TV - I hope some of you are able to access the games. It really is great fun, edge of the seat stuff. I see Graeme Smith is going for an ankle operation and Jacques Kallis has 'personal problems'. Who are those South Africans in the team? Pakistan beat them in a friendly yesterday by 7 wickets. And New Zealand beat England by the about the same margin a few days ago. Good luck everyone.

  2. Yes, indeed, welcome Jolie. A friend of mine, Hilary, might be joining us, too. James says he has new algorithms all ready to go. So I've had a nervous breakdown. But I will strap on my steel undies and soldier on. Isn't it a rule that one can't win the Sweaty Teddy more than once and that everyone must stand an equal chance to win him? Her?

  3. Moira, if the teddy fits...........

Welcome Hilary! don't listen to a thing Moira says, its OK to put the Aussies on your team, really, some of them play quite well.

  4. Oh dear. I've just remembered, Hilary is part Australian. Shame. Never mind. She can't help that. I'll try to be kind.

  5. Hilary, I'm Katy's mother. When I first played I had never seen a game or knew the rules. I did quite well. So you don't need to know anything.
Just remember "it's just a game".
Join up and have some fun with us.

  6. Looking forward to the chase. If Michael is unable to fulfill his duties as worm wrangler, I'd be happy to fill in.

  7. Where is Michael's team? Games start tomorrow so hope everyone is ready. I have already changed my team three times! We do need a worm - a happy one this time.

  8. Anna, shouldn't that be a worm whisperer? Ja, Michael, where is your team, huh? And, Hilary, if you're there, Missy is being understated when she says she's done quite well. She's consistently beaten me and is always up near the top somewhere. Behind her children, it must be said, but near the top.

  9. Seems we are all set to go. Welcome to Jolie and Hilary and I see Michael now has his team - excellent! Does your leg hurt or do your team members' legs hurt? We need to know so that we can work out our strategies. During the ODI between England and NZ yesterday (not part of this competition), one commentator said he thought England, NZ, India and West Indies would be in the semi finals. Another thought that India and Pakistan would be in the finals. We will see......

  10. Sjoe. Hilary made it in the nick of time. She was up to her ears in wek, yesterday, but I bullied her. As one does. So, Michael, will you be using a runner? If so, can I be it? (He understands algorithms; probably uses them; I can piggyback...)
